With less than two weeks left before the prestigious ceremony for the 2012 Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMA) show goes live, the renovation process at Rhino Garments Warehouse in Windhoek is now in full swing.
Informanté Entertainment visited the new venue at the former factory in the Ramatex complex this week. The exterior of the main building has been re-painted; the equipment for constructing the stage is in place; the grass has been cut and 43 new doors have been put in place. Tim Ekandjo, Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer at Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC), is convinced that the old Rhino Garments Warehouse will be totally transformed and converted into a truly explosive and captivating music and entertainment venue, such as Namibia has never experienced. A worker at Wood Expert, Leon Knoesen, who has been very busy installing new doors, says that most of the old doors had to be replaced. “I could only repair 20 of those doors, because the old ones were in a very bad condition.” When asked about why they decided to host the NAMA awards at Rhino Garments Warehouse, Ekandjo said that the place is really spacious. “Over 4000 people will be accommodated. The NBC TV camera crews will be able to move freely.” [It has] “VIP parking, artist’s rooms, VIP lounge areas and blue carpet arrivals can also be catered for,” Ekandjo enthused. He says that the organizers are excited and thrilled to yet again have an opportunity to treat the Namibian public to a truly world-class event. The much-anticipated music awards ceremony is scheduled take place on 14 April.
