The Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Republic, Dr Zephania Kameeta, has decided to use church funds to pay hostel fees for more than 190 learners at its different hostels, irrespective of their ecumenical status.
Since the program formerly known as the Ambassadors’ Scholarship programme, which was sponsored by Winrock International and assisted the hostel dwellers with toiletries, transport and stationery, ended its five-year round of funding, the Bishop embarked upon this ambitious program to assist marginalised children in the Lutheran church school hostels. The program, with financial assistance of the United Evangelical Mission, donated N$100 000 for the first semester and another N$100 000 will be handed over during the last semester. The ELCAP National Coordinator, Abraham //Kheibeb, said the ELCRN takes its social responsibility very seriously as it is a Christ’s command to look after the needy. Pastor //Kheibeb said that since the termination of the Winrock International funds, the Bishop, knowing the needs of his people never went to sleep and was successful in acquiring these funds through the support of partners. “We are also assisting Grade 10 and 12 students with examination fees where and when the need arises,” the cleric said.
