Last week the Ministry of Environment and Tourism played host to German Ambassador Onno Hückmann, who presented Minister Uahekua Herunga with earth-moving equipment for the rehabilitation and expansion of infrastructure in national parks, and officiated at the switching-on of the ministry’s brand-new roof-mounted solar power array.

Namibian companies Nexus Group and NMC Construction signed their contracts to build infrastructure in the Etosha National Park for the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) at the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Namibia headquarters in Windhoek this week. With a combined value of N$275 million, this is the single largest infrastructure venture under MCA Namibia’s Tourism project.

The Namib Ecological Restoration and Monitoring Unit (NERMU) at Gobabeb, south of Walvis Bay, says the gravel plains of the central Namib are sensitive ecosystems that have been exposed to human disturbance as from before the First World War.
