The highly anticipated Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup will start on Saturday, 11 February, as lower divisions embark on their dream of
succeeding through the first-round of the new football season.
NFA secretary-general Barry Rukoro confirmed all logistics for the opening weekend.
“We are all excited about this venture and pulling all stops to make sure the first weekend of the Debmarine Namibia Cup is a success. We are on board and I am sure the clubs are gearing up for this competition. This is football and I bet this cup will bring many smiles to our people’s faces across the board,” said Rukoro.
Debmarine Namibia and the NFA announced a three-year sponsorship deal of N$14,1 million in December last year that will see the return of Namibia flagship competition.
From Kunene to Zambezi, from Oshana to Otjozondjupa, Khomas down to Karas and Omaheke and Erongo regions, each region’s second division clubs will vie for just one spot each to proceed to the last 32 round of the Cup.
Two regional champs will then be drawn to face each other in the elimination match which will see one regional winner ousted from the competition.
Three first divisions will also see clubs battle it out for one spot each of the country’s first divisions; North East, North West and Southern Stream first divisions.
Winners of the elimination rounds will each walk away with N$20 000, with the losing finalist with N$10 000. The losing semi-finalists will receive N$5 000 for their part in the football extravaganza.
From there on, the 16 Namibia Premier league clubs will join the fray in the round of 32 at which each club will receive N$18 000 all the way to the final for preparations, while the overall winners will walk away with N$500 000.
