THE Children’s Education Centre (CEC) in Usakos that was established with the goal to provide orphans with a loving environment that nurtures their growth and development, is permanently shutting its door's tomorrow, 19 April. The CEC was established in 1991 and accommodated 40 students. One of the teachers at the CEC, Maretha Steenkamp, says that when Charly Salvoldi, the chairperson of the private school, told them the news, the teachers made a proposal to him, but he apparently declined it. “We asked him to at least keep the centre open until the end of this year. We wanted the students to start their new year in another grade at another school.”

Legal woes continue to pile up against former Katima Mulilo police station head, Chief Inspector Frederick Nalisa, 50, after a resident registered a case of theft against the senior cop on Monday. Hastings Simataa, 24, lodged the complaint at the Katima police station in an attempt to recover N$5 000 he had paid as bail following his arrest in June 2012 on robbery charges.

Some of the gangsters arrested by Oshana Police for terrorising local people, including members of the Women and Men Network against Crime community policing group, are known fugitives from the law. The arrests took place on Monday, 15 April, at Iilagati village in Okaku Constituency.
