ONE of the pioneers of contemporary music in the country, Rafiqi, who have been in the music corridors for a while, are back in the mainstream with the latest release of a new album.
The Afro-fusion band that was formed early 2000 is composed of renowned artist, Booli Mootseng also known as Makhosa Man together with Kenyan born brothers Jothee “K. Ngotho” and Ezeek “Kariuki N.” Booli who is currently an NBC producer for School Grounds together with the UK-based Jothee as well as Kenyan based Ezeek have released an international digital entitled “Kalimpantu” that’s available online and has been aired on NBC TV. “We plan to take this opportunity to make available our new album to our fans and music lovers across the globe. We are honoured to be part of the voice of the current African artists to the world that will enhance appreciation of music coming from the continent,” said Jothee through an email to Informanté. He said it was a new platform not only for Rafiqi but also the talented artists and the production team that worked tirelessly on this project. Rafiqi added that their talents though spread through three countries “have sailed to finally land in Africa”. Jothee said the album was recorded and co-produced by the internationally acclaimed producer Christian Polloni, adding that Myndz Community, their mother company, will release the Kalimpantu album on CD later in the year. He also said that the new release was a unique opportunity for African artists, particularly vocalists and instrumentalists, Afro-urban music, and for music technicians, to be a part of the ever-growing world music scene. |
