THE United Kingdom based Namibian abstract artist, Natasha Beukes, has a way with colours.

Using ordinary everyday colours, Beukes invokes emotions and when one moves their eye from one piece to the next, they feel like entering different rooms at a time.
When one sets their eyes on the aubergine to aqua, from summer sun to forest then to red and grey, it’s like moving from one season to the next one.
While abstract art is, to most people, nothing but swabs of paint or meaningless shapes, Beukes’s use of bright colours has a life of its own.
In the series titled Letting Go, Farewell and Drifting, Beukes tells the story of heartbreak and a troubled relationship in aubergine.
Letting Go which is in three parts shows the process of the breaking down of a relation, the wounds and the healing.
Farewell which is also in three parts carries tones of agony as the pieces shear and tear in forced separation.
Aqua which is done in heavy blue resembling the colour of water comes with a different feeling of being freed or emancipated. There is a slow flow which one can feel in their veins.
Under Aqua is the piece Lunar (romance) in heavy blue which conveys the sometimes dark emotions engendered in love.
While some of her pieces radiate warmth, love, excitement, there is so much fear and subdued anger too.
A self-taught artist, Beukes started her career in Namibia in 1998 and has been involved in various projects including two Wall calendars done in 2001 and 2003.
Some of her works were shown at the National Art Gallery of Namibia Artfest (2002) and the Art Calendar launch 2003, Windhoek annual show (1998/9 and 2002), ‘Namibia Today’2002 and ‘HIV & AIDS (2002).
She also featured works at SADC (2000), the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) ‘Doban’ (2000 and 2003), Grassroots Cafe ‘Doban’ (1999) and New York City ‘Doban’ (1999).
Beukes who is based in Cardiff has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and is currently working towards a solo exhibition for 2010.
