The man who coached Mzonke Fana in 2005 when he lost his WBC title to Marco Barrera, Manny Fernandes watched the second African to face Barrera, Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses, spar against five continental champs ahead of his January 2010 world title defence.

“Hitman made a lot of mistakes on his defense,” Fernandes commented after the exhibition at the Country Club last weekend.
“He must never drop his jab. Barrera likes to follow up on a powerful right. Hitman opens up a lot and therefore makes a lot of mistake on his defense. He must throw two right jabs once. I want to see him doubling his left jab and then bringing it straight back to the chin, without dropping that jab,” said Fernandes, who had a chat with Hitman’s trainer Nestor Tobias after the sparring.
Fernandes brought Jason Bedeman (IBO Lightweight All African champ) and Oscar Chauke (WBF Featherweight champ) to spar with the Hitman but praised Hitman.
“Hitman has a beautiful right uppercut. He is much better than Fana. But he must watch out for Barrera’s counter-right. It’s the one that knocked out my boxer in the second round. Fana messed up when he dropped his left. We had studied Barrera for over three months,” the South African trainer said.
Fana (29w 4losses) had won 21 fights and lost twice when he met Barrera who now has 65w 7losses  (43KO).
The Hitman is 26fights undefeated.
