NIGERIA has agreed to camp in Namibia for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Media Officer, Ademola Olaiire, informed Lagos media yesterday said the Nigerian High Commissioner to Angola advised them to camp in Namibia. Until now, the Super Eagles had been contemplating camping in South Africa. “We have been advised to camp in Namibia rather than South Africa because Namibia has a similar weather pattern with Angola while South Africa will be very cold at that time. We have already been in touch with the Namibians,” said Olaiire. He said the NFF would be happy to have more than 5,000 who will camp in Namibia with the team before the Angolan games. Namibia Football Association (NFA) President John Muinjo also confirmed meeting his Nigerian counterpart, Sani Lulu Abdullah but said the issue would be settled on 5 December. “He did not agree in principle. We are meeting on the sidelines of the 2010 World Cup draw in South Africa on 5 December. Mr Lulu will bring the Nigerian coach to discuss the issue of players’ bonuses as well. They want us to pay for their players’ bonuses while in Namibia” said Muinjo. The Super Eagles are in Group C of the 2010 African Nations Cup where they will play against African champions Egypt and surprise packages Mozambique and Benin in Angola’s Western Province, Benguela. |
