I am contemplating suing the South African comedian Joey Rasdien for cracked ribs, sore jaws and buckets of tears lost during his hilarious shows Thursday and Friday last week at the National Theatre of Namibia.
Rated among SA’s best comedians, Rasdien’s jibes are spread over a variety of issues ranging from his country’s leaders, Namibia’s emptiness, Chinese and Indian idiosyncrasies, homosexuality, suicides as well as movies. Rasdien is coloured and he says his people are ruling the world today. And who can deny this fact? There is US President Barack Obama, a coloured whose father is Kenyan. There is Tiger Woods, the greatest golfer, born of an African-American father and a Thai mother. And then Lewis Hamilton of Formula One motor racing is coloured - his father is from Grenada while his mother is British. Of course, Rasdien does not think that former Namibian president, Dr Sam Nujoma deserves the title of the Founding Father of the Nation. He says this title aptly suits the SA president, Jacob Zuma. You should know by now why Rasdien thinks so. Zuma has 20 known children. This in itself is founding a nation. According to Rasdien too much of everything or nothing is not good for anyone. In Toronto, Canada for example, Rasdien says there are no thefts, no murders and people live without any fear. They have everything they want except fun. So they create it by killing themselves hence the high cases of suicide. Have you ever wondered why it’s so easy to make an Indian movie? Rasdien seems to know. It’s in their dances and songs. And do you understand Chinese? It’s an easy language made up of ahs and ehs. Why do people get surprised when things happen? Like when one says (Nelson) Mandela, Nujoma or (Robert) Mugabe will die soon? Yes, Rasdien says, they are old and what else happens to aging people except death? Now I understand why Rasdien managed to pack the NTN even when he was asking N$120 per head which made his shows one of the most expensive in recent times. I will claim Rasdien’s mixed race hair for a brilliant show. |
