THE Brave Warriors will mark the 20th Independence Celebrations with a FIFA-recognised international friendly against Botswana on 21 March at the Hage Geingob stadium.
There has been confusion over the match venue and the team’s opponents as world football governing body FIFA has been advertising that the Brave Warriors are scheduled to play Lesotho. But coach Tom Saintfiet yesterday confirmed that Botswana were the real opponents for Namibia on Sunday afternoon. Weeks ago, Tim Isaacs, national team manager confessed to headaches over the match venue since the Independence Stadium is under construction although it’s the main attraction for all independence festivities. “We are not yet sure of the time but we will use the rugby stadium,” said Saintfiet. Botswana coach Stan Tshosane said he will use the match to prepare for the second leg of the preliminary round of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers having been held at home to a goalless draw last weekend. The Zebras play Bafana Bafana in the CHAN to be played in two weeks time. Botswana beat Mozambique 1-0 away in an international friendly a fortnight ago. “I’m taking this game seriously because it falls on a FIFA date. It’s a must win for us,” said Saintfiet who has added more fire-power to the side that lost 0-1 in Seychelles last weekend. Twenty-six players have been called into camp this includes African Stars duo Jamu Ngatjizeko and Max Mbaeva, Romanos Shilongo, West-Bank based Quinton Jacobs who has been in South Africa this week to get a new work-visa and the South African trio of Paulus Shipanga, unattached Sidney Plaatjies and gangly Michael Pienaar. On Friday night, the squad of 26 will be trimmed to 18. Probable Starting Line-Up A. Mbaha; S. Goagab; R. Gariseb; M. Pienaar; G. Hummel; R. Louw; S. Plaatjies; Q.Jacobs; T. Shipahu; P. Shipanga; E.
