The cry for help from the SPCA published in Informanté last week didn’t go unnoticed in Windhoek’s business community. This week Peralin Paints stepped forward with a vehicle donation to assist with the plight of animal rescues.

Peralin Paints donated a company vehicle: a Renault Kangoo 1.6, three-door panel van, valued at around N$175 000. An overjoyed Hillary du Plessis (SPCA Kennel Manager) told the press that their prayer had been answered, since they are overloaded with work and they were down to one vehicle, which could have packed up any minute.
She said that they have allocated the vehicle to their official driver, Joseph Naimhawakwa, who is responsible for fetching injured animals and cruelty cases from all over Windhoek. She said that the SPCA travels great distances daily to fetch animals that have been run over, abused, lost or left to die on the side of the road.
“We are so grateful to Peralin for this Kangoo panel van which is just what we needed, because we will be able to load many animals into the back of the vehicle,“ said Hillary, who received the keys from Andrea Metzger (Marketing Manager Peralin Paints) at the official handover.
Metzger said that the vehicle had fulfilled its duties with the company and was due to be replaced anyway. She said that when management saw the article and realised how much help the SPCA needed, they jumped in with this donation. The vehicle, which is in excellent running condition, has a full service history and will be put to good use by the animal shelter.
“It is up to the business community to help charity organisations, like the SPCA, to carry out their thankless tasks in rescuing and kennelling the hundreds of stray and abused animals,” she said.
“We challenge other companies and suppliers of building materials to follow our example and contribute where they can in strengthening the SPCA’s infrastructure for the sake of the animals.”
Hillary mentioned that they will need to customise the back of the panel van with cages, and ultimately double it up as a mobile clinic for township dogs.
