A delegation comprising twenty business people and provincial government officials from the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Bas-Congo province arrives in Namibia this coming weekend for a seven-day networking visit to the country. The delegation is hosted by the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and will also visit the coastal towns of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund under the auspices of the two local NCCI branches.
Informanté was told the delegation is particularly interested in business opportunities in fishing, the services offered by the port of Walvis Bay, transport, agriculture, construction, logistics, importing, general trade, finance and hospitality. Bas-Congo is one of the eleven provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with its capital the port city of Matadi. Boma is another important trade city on the banks of the Congo River in this province. Both cities are on the northern bank of the mighty Congo River with the river deep and wide enough that ships can reach these cities from the Atlantic Ocean. Ships sailing from Walvis Bay regularly call at Boma and Matadi, with the most sought-after import commodity being Namibian-produced horse mackerel, a basic source of protein for the people of Congo.
