A warrant of arrest was issued for Namibian WBO Africa super-middleweight champion Wilberforce Shihepo yesterday, after Petrus Mouers, a Katutura resident, laid a charge of assault against him at the Katutura police station on 20 May 2012.

The 54-year old Mouers, sporting a 3 centimetre wound stitched-up on the top of his head registered a case of aggravated assault against Shihepo last week Sunday after he was reportedly hit with a large stone by Shihepo in the yard of his residence, an incident described by witnesses as road rage on the part of the 1.9 metre tall boxer.
Mouers recounted how around 11h00 on the day of the assault, he had just returned from collecting his sister from a church in Khomasdal and had stopped in the road while waiting for a reveler at a shebeen next door to his house to remove his vehicle that was parked in front of Mouers’ gate.
“While waiting for the other person to remove his vehicle from of my gate, the driver of the vehicle behind me, a Ford Fairline V8, whom I recognized as Shihepo began hooting non-stop and being very vulgar. I could not get off the road, because of the island in the middle of the road to my left and other vehicles on my right. While exiting my vehicle in my driveway, he pounced and struck me on the head,” an angry Mouers related.
When the 54-year old regained consciousness, a fist-fight broke out between him and Shihepo and only came to an end after the bulky boxer employed at State House reportedly produced a pistol, jumped back into his vehicle and sped off, leaving behind deep tyre marks on the ground.
Mouers was treated at the Katutura State hospital that same day, where nurses encouraged him to report the assault to the Katutura police. The case is being handled by the Katutura branch of the Crime Investigations Unit (CIU). According to the station commander of the Katutura police station, Chief Inspector Ismael Basson, the police have been trying to locate Shihepo, but have not had much success as they do not know Shihepo’s residential address.
When contacted for comment, Shihepo denied that he is responsible for Mouers injuries. “I think this is a case of mistaken identity. Why would I strike an old man with a stone? ” a shocked Shihepo asked.
