Eleven Arrows’ management has distanced itself from any prospect of rewarding its players for their efforts at survival in the premier league. After a disappointing start to their league campaign they defeated Rundu-based United Stars 2-0 in a tense match at the Kuisebmund Stadium on the last day of NPL matches. Arrows battled it out on the last day of the MTC National Premier League season which ended two weeks ago.
But Arrows managers are not eager to emulate the move by fellow coastal side Blue Waters who held an awards ceremony for its players over the past weekend. Blue Waters finished in joint fourth place, merely a point behind third-placed African Stars, despite a slow start to the recently-ended premier league. “No we are not going to give awards! How can you reward players after such a season? But we are going to have a meeting with the board members of the club to discuss some issues sometime next week. I will be busy with other meetings and as we speak our coach (Woody Jacobs) is out of the country” said club chairman, Gabriel Tjombe. According to Tjombe the meeting of the club will be focusing on the future of its players. The club is looking at investing in new players for the 2012/2013 One Million Dollar league season. “Yes we will be looking at that,” he confirmed. Meanwhile Arrows Coach, Woody Jacobs, who recently returned from his short vacation in South Africa, is concerned about his future with the club after helping the 2011 Leo/NFA cup holders retain premier league status. “All we need to see is whether they (Arrows) want me or not, as I signed a contract with them until end of the season. That means my contract will finish at the end of this month, but I will give them an option, as I am planning to set up a meeting with the management so that I give them a quotation for the players I want. If they don’t want me then I will be jobless and will perhaps look somewhere else, but I would like to stay,” said Jacobs. Tjombe was quite candid that he is willing to continue working with Jacobs. “Look, we only have a contract until the end of this month, but as chairman of the club in my personal view, yes I would like to continue what we started with him (Jacobs). That is my personal view and not that of the club”, added Tjombe. Arrows finished the MTC/NPL season with 20 points in 10th position.
