Teen sensation Linda, who astounded the country by scooping three awards at the 2012 Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMA), is finally ready to respond to all the criticism that she has since received.
Despite the harsh criticism that the 16-year old R&B singer (real name Pendukeni Linda Simasiku) attracted after the awards show, the teenage singer says that she in fact deserved to be announced as the winner of all those awards. “I worked hard and they (the awards) are mine. If you think that someone else should have won them, then you are wrong. I have won them and that is the truth,” the star-struck singer of ‘I Believe’ emphasised, holding her three awards high up in the air. The young starlet further points out that she was already in hot demand during the nomination show. “At the nomination show that was hosted at D-Club in Windhoek earlier this year, I got nominated in six categories,” Linda says. She admits though that the bad publicity that she received since the show touched her emotionally and at first made her believe that what the people are saying might be true. “Reading and hearing all those things that people were saying about me not deserving the awards was not nice. I have with time grown stronger and realised that people would always speak badly.” The young singer further says that she feels very proud to finally have the opportunity to hold in her hands the awards that she won. The official NAMA 2012 prize-giving ceremony where all the winners received their prize money and awards was hosted at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) in Windhoek on Monday this week. Linda who won N$65 000 says that she will use some of the money to help pay others school fees who cannot afford it. “I will pay the school fees of one student in every region in Namibia for a whole year,” she says. According to Linda she will do this, because she believes that education holds the key to a bright future. She further says that the idea came to her, because she has seen so many young children who would like to go to school, but cannot attend school because they have no one to pay their school fees. Linda says that she would place her awards at the ‘Supreme Records’ office in Windhoek so that everyone can see them. Linda won the 2012 NAMA awards for the Best R&B, Best Newcomer and Song of the Year.
