A coastal resident revealed this week how he pleaded with three armed men not to kill him after he was over-powered by them in broad daylight when he briefly stopped next to the B1 last Wednesday, some five kilometers outside Okahandja.

The incident left the man with a stab wound to his leg and he was robbed of his cash, a laptop, cell phone and wristwatch.
“I was driving from Windhoek to the coast when a customer phoned me on my cell phone requesting some information. My initial response to the caller was that I would stop in Okahandja in a couple of minutes and phone him back, but I saw the roadside parking spot and pulled over,” the victim told Informanté this week. He agreed to tell his story on condition of anonymity, as he fears future reprisals from his attackers who would know his name.
“I got out of my car and opened the vehicle’s left rear door to reach for my diary when a man suddenly appeared running towards me wielding a knife. I managed to avert the man’s knife and then felt a jolt to my leg as a second man attacked me. A third man joined the attack and opened the vehicle’s right rear door and then tried to pull me into the car. All the time the initial attacker was trying to deal me a fatal stab wound to the chest,” he recounted.
The entire ordeal was probably over in a few seconds, but the man says it seemed like a very long time and he kept on pleading with his attackers: “Don’t stab me!” The highway robbers disappeared with the stolen items and it was only when he stopped at the Okahandja police station in a state of terror and bewilderment that he realised the jolt he felt in his leg during the attack was in fact a stab wound that he was dealt by one of the attackers.
The Okahandja police are currently investigating a case of attempted murder and armed robbery. As the attack took place on the stretch of road near NamWater’s depot to the south of the town, it is suspected that the armed robbers might have found refuge in the nearby ‘Vyfrand Kamp’ informal settlement.
