Hip-hop artist, D-Jay’s newest album is expected to be named after his hit song entitled ‘Champion’. The song features on the Izinyoka Entertainment crew’s album entitled ‘Cultural Revolution’, and was launched in Walvis Bay last year on 23 December.
The lyrics of the song are really emotional and carry a strong message. So, where did the lyrics actually come from? Rapper D-Jay (real name Diogene Ochs) revealed to Informanté Entertainment that the song is based on personal experience. “When I wrote the song I was thinking about all the difficulties that I have been through since I started my music career. Since 2003 I have been through a lot of struggles, but I am still standing strong. So I call myself a champion,” the artist says. D-Jay who is inspired by rappers such as Bow Wow and Lil Wayne claims that one of the struggles that he has been through is moving from one music label to another. “It is not easy going from one place to another, but what matters is the fact that you stay a champion through all the ups and downs that you go through in life,” he says. In 2008 he joined Gazza Music Production (GMP) but left in 2009. He joined Izinyoka Entertainment early in 2010. The song with the heart-breaking lyrics says: “I am working hard for the tears that my mamma has cried,” has become popular amongst youngsters. D-Jay says that his mother has also been through a lot and has shed many tears, but he is working hard to make her happy and proud of him. He is currently busy in the recording studio working on his new album. D-Jay says that the album will be called ‘Champion’. “My new ‘Champion’ album to be released later this year will contain the song ‘Champion, part 2’” he revealed. D-Jay concludes by saying that his new album will be more mature than his previous work. “I have made too much high school music and now it is time to mature.”
