| Forbes tourney lifts local tennis |

The Namibian Tennis Association (NTA) held the Alexander Forbes Open Tennis Tournament over the past weekend. Alexander Forbes’ sponsorship helped to make this tournament the biggest NTA Open tournament of the year with most of the top tennis players in Namibia turning up for some high and competitive tennis. Nicky Buys had a tough road to the final, beating Kallie Heese in 3 grueling sets before beating Louis Botha the number one ranked player in Namibia in the semi-finals. This took its toll on Buys who succumbed to injury in the second set, while trailing Michau Basson 6 -3 and 2 -1 in the second set. Michau was in top form, finishing the tournament without losing a single set. The men’s doubles was also a classic affair with Johan Theron and Deon Van Dyk trailing Louis Botha and Henco Serdyn 5 – 2 in the third set at 30 all. With their opponents serving, Theron and Van Dyk somehow managed to fight back and won the next 7 games in a row and took the match, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. Other Results: Amanda Van Dyk is just getting better with time and won against Christiane Schuckman in the Ladies Final 6-2, 6-4. Ladies’ Doubles: Amanda Van Dyk and Rihetta Swart won by means of a walkover against Jolanda Amoraal & Chu –Rida Nel, 6-4, 6-4. Mix Doubles finals: MK Khupe & Rihetta Swart won against Deon Van Dyk and Amanda Van Wyk, 7-6, 5-7, 10-6. The next NTA tournament is scheduled for 7 July 2012.
