Last weekend’s games in the Bank Windhoek Fistball League produced some exciting action and a couple of surprising results in both the National A League and the National B League.

Strengthened by former Under18 national team spiker, Thorsten Schmidt-Dumont, Cohen FC 1 (CFC 1) got off to a great start on Saturday when they took on Bank Windhoek National A League log leaders, SKW 1, in an intense game. SKW 1 were troubled throughout the game by Schmidt-Dumont’s accurate serves.
Cohen took an early 3:0 set lead before SKW 1 managed to pull back a set. This proved to be too little too late as CFC 1 took the decisive set by 14:12 points. Nonetheless, SKW 1 retains its top spot in the league rankings.
SKW 2 held onto its second place, even though they had to play without the experienced Michael Baas. His absence was definitely felt by the team who had to work hard to earn two wins from three matches.
SFC 1 from Swakopmund struggled to make an impact, losing all their games and relinquished third spot to a resurgent CFC 1 side.
The National B League produced the biggest upset of the day, as league leaders Cohen FC 3, who had not lost a game or a set going into the game, met their fate against DTS in what turned out to be the match of the weekend. CFC 3 took an early 2:1 set lead before DTS got going with some good defensive work and pin-point spikes, which helped them win the next two sets in a convincing manner.
With the score at 2:3 sets for DTS, log leaders CFC regrouped, but could not match DTS who continued their brave attack and took the win in the sixth set of the game by 10:12. Cohen FC 3 held onto the top spot, while DTS moved one place up to fourth on the log. The fistball season continues on 7 July with the start of the Cohen Cup.
