By conducting a mini-basketball promotion tour to the North the Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF) last weekend continued its efforts to develop youth basketball in the regions. The NBF held clinics with altogether 100 children, teachers and coaches.

First station was Francis Galton Primary School in Tsumeb (Oshikoto), followed by Tsandi Primary School (Omusati) and Ongwediva Leopards Basketball Club (Oshana). The aim was to encourage the regions to involve more children in basketball and to support the teachers and coaches who have already started with mini-basketball activities. Friendly matches were played in order to motivate the children and to expose them to competition.
Twenty girls and boys of the Basketball Artists School (BAS) in Windhoek took part in the activities and functioned as role models for the other children, teaching them basics like dribbling, passing, shooting, defense and offense.
The clinics were conducted by the NBF’s German expert, Frank Albin, assisted by BAS volunteers and the new NBF Development Officer, Francina Shilongo. Shilongo, a sports officer stationed in Tsumeb, was seconded to NBF by the Directorate of Sport in order to continue the successful youth basketball programme.
