4th Beach Volleyball tournament of 2012 |

The fourth volleyball tournament of the year took place last weekend, with 29 promising teams participating in the 2012 DTS Maerua Superspar Volleyball Series in Windhoek at DTS in very cold weather.
The Junior Ladies category, for girls aged 14 to 18, saw 4 teams taking part. First place, after winning all 3 matches went to Stephanie Palmhert and partner Kim Seebach, with Jana Rumpf and Maike Brandt as runners-up. Third place went to Saskia Henkert and Melissa Kring. The 2-a-side social category attracted 4 teams, with youthful player, Maike Brandt, also taking part alongside Yorck Ritter. They were unbeaten during the day, winning this category while all female team Yvonne and Lena Brinkmann, came second, with Mark Brinkmann and Paul Munting in third place. In the men’s category the fight for the top spot was between 2 generation teams. The senior team of Achim Lueck and Peter Brinkmann were trailing one set behind the Junior team of Gero Talkenberg and Bernhard Schurz. In the Second set Brinkmann and Lueck came back to win 21-14, before they showed their experience by winning the 3rd set 15-8 to gain their second title this year. Third place went to Viggo von Scheliah and Helmo Minz. The 4-a-side social category attracted 12 teams. The top 4 teams that qualified for the semi-finals were Cats and Dogs, Meatco Lovers, Mean Machine and Juxta. Winner of the last 2 tournaments, Juxta, lost in the semi-final to last year’s champions, Cats and Dogs, setting up a final against a very strong team of Meatco Lovers. Cats and Dogs managed to win this final by 2-0 sets, clinching their first title of the year. Third place place went to team Juxta. The Ladies’ category saw 4 Beach Volleyball teams competing. Defending champions Wiebke Hoeritzauer and Brigitte Looser once again showed off their skills and went unbeaten throughout the day. Teja Lueck and Rosi Hennes had to settle for second place, while the veterans’ team of Curschmann and Kinder came third. Ingo Tshikoronja from team Mean Machine was voted as the FX FITNESS Most Athletic Male Player of the tournament, while Isabel Werner from Cats and Dogs was chosen as the FX FITNESS Most Athletic Female Player. The next tournament will be staged on 11 August in Windhoek at DTS.
