A Namibian Police officer, detective sergeant Raphael Nawa Ilukena (42), appeared before the Magistrates’ court at Katima Mulilo lower court on Monday on charges of murder and kidnapping.

The accused sergeant Ilukena suspected that the late Christopher Chisanga,  believed to be a Zambian national had a love relationship with his wife. Last week Friday (20 July), the accused hunted Chisanga down, hand-cuffed the deceased and took him with a taxi to his house in Choto.

At his house, sergeant Ilukena reportedly called his wife and kids to come inside to greet the man who ‘claimed’ to be their father and afterwards told the kids to go out of the house. He apparently locked the house again, handcuffed the man on his legs and pushed him to the floor. He allegedly assaulted Chisanga by kicking him, hitting him with a shambok, pointing a pistol into his mouth and later on urinated into a container and gave the urine to the deceased to drink.

While torturing him, he was reportedly asking questions regarding thev love affair. The deceased begged the accused to shoot him to end the suffering, but the accused then told the late Chisanga that he was Satan and is going to end his life. He continued to assault him until the deceased soiled his trouser, as he was already unconscious. The accused told his wife that he was sure he killed Christopher and he is going to remain a disgrace in the world.

After all this had happened the neighbours realised that something was wrong and they started to approach the house. The police were called to the scene and the deceased was taken to Katima Mulilo state hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by the medical doctor at around 20h25 hours in the evening.

Sergeant Ilukena was arrested that same night (20 July 2012) and was locked up at Ngoma police holding cells. The matter is still under investigation and was postponed to 23 August 2012, while the accused was remanded in police custody. No bail was granted.
