Bethuel ‘Tyson’ Ushona, Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses and Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda set Ramatex alight on Saturday night by pulling off sensational wins against highly rated opponents and in the process landed championship belts. Not to be outdone was Abmerk Shindjuu who defeated South African Khanyekude Mukhansi to win the WBO Africa flyweight title.

Promoter and trainer Nestor Tobias delivered on his promise of an historic night of boxing action, with foreign referees and judges overseeing the fights. With the giant Ramatex hall packed to the rafters it was up to the boxers to deliver and they did so in style.
Ushona defeated former IBO and IBF welterweight champion Isaac Hlatshwayo in a scrappy bout to win the WBO Africa welterweight title. Hlatshwayo was out-boxed in the early rounds by Ushona and resorted to clinging to stop his opponent from meting out further punishment. A point was deducted from him in round 3 for holding, but he never troubled Ushona who won the fight by unanimous decision.
In the main supporting bout former WBA lightweight champion Paulus Moses exhibited the type of boxing that saw him win a world title when he defeated Cassius Baloyi by split decision. Moses was the more aggressive boxer and wowed the crowd with a fine display of boxing art. Much was expected from Baloyi, who has held several world title belts in his career, but he had no answer to Moses’ speed and accuracy, with the Namibian Hitman finding his target throughout the fight. The night however belonged to Paulus Ambunda who was fighting in a WBO bantamweight title eliminator against Latin bantamweight champion William Prado of Brazil. The fight got off to a cracking start as the two fighters stood toe to toe to slug it out in the centre of the ring. Ambunda took control of the bout in the second round as his straight jab troubled the Brazilian. An upper-cut from Ambunda towards the end of the round buckled Prado’s knees and only the bell saved him from going down.
Ambunda again had Prado in trouble in round 4 as he caught the Brazilian with big punches, which would have dropped any other boxer. The rest of the fight followed a similar pattern, with Prado trying to catch Ambunda with counter punches, but it was not to be, as the Namibian proved to be in a class of his own. Ambunda’s domination of the fight was reflected on the judges’ scorecards who gave the Namibian a wide margin of victory.
With this win Ambunda captured the WBO international bantamweight title and is now the number one contender for the WBO bantamweight world championship.
