The Okahandja Motor Club staged a very successful drag event at the airstrip this past weekend. According to Johan Venter of the host club, they received 45 car entries and 3 bike entries. More than 600 people attended the event and as many as 250 runs were done on the day.

Local motor clubs were present in force, with members of Rehoboth Motor Club, Road Aces Windhoek and Beemer Club Namibia all giving the local boys a run for their money.

“We did not do the dirt drag race, because the water truck that had to spray the surface before we could race had an issue and could not make it to the track on time,” Venter explained. The dirt drags were to be the first of their kind in Namibia, but the disappointment did not last long.

“Okahandja Motor Club had a great club event on 4 August.  Very competitive times were achieved by the 45 cars and three bikes that entered for the event. Only street vehicles participated and everyone had a good time on the 400 metre strip.  A highlight of the event was the Club 5 man races.  These consisted of four teams (RMC, RAW, Beemer & OMC) doing a special drag race. Four of the contestants per team had to push a car from their club 100 metres, then the driver started the car and had to race the remainder of the track against the clock.  RAW was the fastest team and won this event.

The next drag race will be staged in Okahandja with cross border participation on 15 September.
