Quinton van Rooyen featured somewhat surprisingly yet prominently at the SWAPO Youth League fundraiser, the platform displayed pomp and affluence. Founding President Sam Nuyoma officiated at the event and soon the program Director invited those who were ready to pledge.Three respondents down the line, Quinton rose and in humility hailed his hosts. He praised Dr. Nuyoma and the SWAPO Party for staying the course in providing leadership to the Namibian people under the at times trying circumstances. The hall fell breathless as Quinton started with business, he announced that the Van Rooyen family pledged a total of N$ 250 000 to the various sections of SWAPO and towards the ensuing congress of the party. N$50 000 for the SWAPO Youth League, N$ 50 000 for the SWAPO Women’s Council, N$50 000 for the SWAPO Elders Council and N$ 100 000 towards the SWAPO Party Congress. Van Rooyen assured his audience that the Van Rooyen family was committed to the creation of wealth for the country. “For each of us at this dinner table tonight, there is a counterpart being destitute out there on the street, under a tree. It must be the business of all of us here today, not only to work towards the reduction of poverty, but to effectively eliminate poverty by creating wealth for all. Politics, labor and business must get together and we must talk less and get practically involved in the act of creating wealth for all our people,” said Quinton to a stunned audience, some of whom starred at this diminutive speaker in disbelief, amid thunderous ululations. Van Rooyen further said that the party must not be stuck on where the money will come from to run the congress but must rather focus on the business of effectively running the various congresses. “It will be a sad day if any radical member of the youth can mobilize the desperate youth. There is need for concerted and urgent in-house action and we must take stock and address residual issues that we could not resolve along the way over the last twenty odd years.” Van Rooyen concluded by telling his audience that, the Van Rooyen family has resolved to support any presidential candidate who will come from the SWAPO party.
