Oshana Youth Football Development League (OYFDL) will reward top performers tomorrow.

This was announced by the league’s chairperson, Agnus Chabala Elemu, who said the purpose of awarding top achievers is to “encourage them to continue with consistente performance in sport activities”.

Sponsored by Dr Temore Muti, who operates from Natu pharmacy in Oshakati and Ongwediva Medipark Private Hospital, the event is held for the second time under the Namibia Football Association (NFA).

It will be held at Oshana Region Governor’s offices where under-15 and -17 players of nine sport academies will participate. Elemu said the awards would be given in different categories such as the best sport academy, player of the season, top goal scorer and young player of the season.

The names of individual achievers would only be revealed at the ceremony. However, he named Foxy the top under-15 academy with Alma Academy in second  and Africa Academy in the third place. With regard to the under-17 achievers, Mavinga Khuse is in the first place, followed by Foxy and Alma in the third place.

The event’s sponsor, Dr Muti, told Informanté that he is a soccer fan with a burning desire to advance the sport. “I grew up playing soccer and I am sponsoring it as part of my contribution towards consoling and preparing  Namibian children for the future.

“I am specifically targeting those vulnerable street children, for them to get skills and become future soccer stars. This sponsorship will run for three consecutive years and we have already covered the first two years,” he briefly noted.

Meanwhile, Ongwediva Town Council donated sport gear worth N$7 000 to the International University of Management (IUM) this week.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Ongwediva Mayor Jason Asino said the impact of the IUM  and other public institutions of high learning is visible, hence it is the responsibility of the private and public enterprises to ensure sustainability towards the establishment and consolidation of knowledge-based society through various interventions.

“As you may be aware, sport is a universally acclaimed source of inspiration, mode of mind relaxation, promotes health and contributes to physical fitness.

“As staff and students of IUM who are aspiring to achieve excellence, I urge you to embrace and actively participate in sporting activities.”
