June 23 was a historical day for the Rehoboth Community following the opening of the town’s first ever Medical Centre.

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Richard Kamwi, officially opened the Rehoboth Medical Centre last Monday to cater for both private and state patients.
Kamwi described the opening of the Centre as “exceptionally good news, especially in a country where the gap between the rich and the poor is quite wide.”
Rehoboth Mayor George Dax said, “It’s no secret that the community of Rehoboth was in need of a technologically advanced medical institution.”
The Medical Centre is situated in the centre of Rehoboth where the old Blue Hotel used to be. The facility will provide a wide variety of medical services such as dentistry, optometrist, physiotherapy, radiography, digital X-rays, pharmacy and a theatre for minor surgical procedures, according to Dr. A.A. Olivier, a local general practitioner at the Centre.
Old Mutual, First National Bank and Bank Windhoek financed the Medical Centre whose symbol is that of the Hoodia Plant, known to survive in the harshest desert conditions.
