TWO men were arrested last week in Oshakati on suspicion of executing the robbery of one of the largest amounts of stolen cash from a security company ever recorded in Namibia.
In an ironic turn of events, it was reported that Oshana Security Company in Oneshila was robbed of over N$800,000 in broad daylight a fortnight ago. Oshana Police boss, Deputy Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa said it was suspected that the robbery was an inside job as there was no sign of the outside door having been tampered with. “There were also two ladies in the building and security guards outside when the thieves stole the money,” Kashihakumwa said. Oshakati Police have so far managed to recover N$100,000 worth of the stolen money. Charles Negumbo and Frans Shikomba – a previous convict who currently has over 10 pending cases concerning similar crimes – were arrested shortly after the robbery and charged with house breaking and theft. The two female employees of Oshana Security Company, who were in the building at the time the robbery was carried out, were also arrested. They were, however released after questioning due to a lack of evidence. This week Tuesday, Negumbo briefly appeared at the Oshakati Magistare Court before Magistrate Mufakana, in an attempt to get the court to release him on bail. Mufakana postponed the bail hearing for the next day, September 10. Before going to press, the decision to grant or deny Negumbo bail had still not been made.
