PROMINENT artist YT-De Wet has shot his longtime girlfriend dead before commiting suicide.
The fatal incident, which occurred at midday yesterday in the Southern Industrial area, sealed the fate of De Wet’s longtime girlfriend/manager and mother of his two-year-old child, 21-year-old Ndapanda Eigowas. According to eyewitnesses, De Wet, the ‘Keumbo’ hit-maker and national music award winner, allegedly engaged in a heated argument with his girlfriend yesterday afternoon before drawing a pistol and shooting her several times, leaving her for dead. Police at the scene said that the couple were involved in a heated argument over the weekend following an extensive drinking spree and their relationship had turned sour ever since. An eyewitness on the scene claimed De Wet shot Eigowas in the throat before turning the gun on himself and shooting himself in the face. Eigowas who used to work for the International University of Management (IUM), died on the scene and De Wet was rushed to Katutura Hospital in a critical condition, before being declared dead just hours later. Prior to the incident, Eigowas alerted Informanté on Saturday that she had separated from De Wet, accusing him of being physically and emotionally abusive. “He started saying that I am useless in his life but I have been instrumental in assisting him even with his latest video,” she said. She also accused De Wet of having a drug addiction. A family member also alerted Informanté that after being dumped due to his abusive behaviour and following a long stint of alcohol consumption and weed smoking, De Wet began spreading all sorts of lies about his girlfriend on Sunday. Eigowas’s family said she craved economic independence to be able to take care of her two-year-old daughter, and allegedly found some work with an SMS company in the Southern Industrial area, but De Wet quickly traced her to her workplace. Apart from being a performing artist, De Wet has been operating VIPR bar in the Dorado Valley shopping centre.
