ONE of South Africa’s oldest bands, Jack Hammer, is slated to stage a series of performances at the Warehouse Theatre in Windhoek from today until Saturday.
Piet Botha, Paul v/d Waal, Johnathan Martin and Tertius du Plessis – Jack Hammer’s band members - are all geared up to rock the entertainment tavern, Warehouse Production has confirmed. According to Warehouse Production, Jack Hammer is a South African band that was formed at Slowfarm, just north of Pretoria in 1984. Winners of the South African Music Awards (SAMA) ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in 2006, the band has, according to promoters Warehouse Production, successfully trail-blazed the African music scene close to three decades. Since their first gig in 1984, the band has released seven albums including ‘Jack of all Trades’ (1987), ‘Ghosts on the Wind’ (1993), ‘Suitcase vol Winter’ (1997) and ‘Die Mamba’ (2003). Others include ‘Live at the Nile’ (2004) and ‘The Pilgrim’ (2005). Their current album, ‘Highway 13’ was released in 2008. “This year marks the 25th anniversary and the band will be releasing a compilation album covering past and present work and some brand new songs. The provisional title of this project is “Roadworks 1984-2009”,” Warehouse Production said. Doors will open at 20h00 for 21h00 from today until Saturday. Advance tickets for the gig are available from the Warehouse theatre daily between 10h00 and 18h00, as well as at Universal Sounds (Tel. 227037) in Post Street Mall and at the Biltong Shop in Maerua Mall (Tel. 253535) for N$55 each. Tickets at the door will be sold at N$65.
