A Windhoek vet is filing for divorce after his wife had him arrested and locked up for bashing her head open with his gun butt.
Dr Milton Maseke and Elizabeth Maseke have been married for less than seven months but are already threatening to divorce as feelings of regret for the 4 September 2010 union build up. On 20 November 2010 Maseke allegedly went to Otjiwarongo on a drinking spree with his friends but called Elizabeth to pick him up. On arrival Elizabeth realised that her husband was still drunk and an argument soon erupted between the two. “He called me to come pick him up and when I got to the hotel we got in an argument and he hit me with the butt of his gun and I had to get stitches. He just left me there bleeding.A police sergeant assisted me and took me to the police station where I opened the case against him,” said Elizabeth. Maseke hitched a ride back to Windhoek with friends and left his wife bleeding at the scene of the attack. “I drove all the way to Windhoek with the fresh wound and got stitches at the Katutura Hospital,” she said. She, however, withdrew the case soon after she had gone to visit him in police custody. “It was an emotional time for me so I withdrew the case after I went to see him in police custody. He begged me to withdraw the case,” she said. Soon after the couple had reunited, the abuse started again, “After we went home, the swearing continued. He told me the first time I survived and that the next time I might not make it to the police station.” The unemployed mother of two started fearing for her and her children’s lives, so she asked her husband to move out of their home while they sort things out but he refused saying it was his house. “He said he is willing to pay N$1,000 for our accommodation and N$750 for each child but we would have to buy our own food. He also told me that he filed for divorce after I laid a charge but he did not show me any papers,” she said. She added that her husband is heartless and therefore she is forced to flee for the safety of her children.
