Dear editor,
I WOULD like you to publish this in your newspaper, as it may alert the ministry to do something. As student nurses, we are the pillar of the health system in this country. We should also be role models to the community and set examples for the young ones and the community at large. But our hostel is not up to standard. It’s more or less like prison cells. These are buildings which were built in the colonial era and if you ask when last they were renovated, they will tell you 1980 or so! When we forwarded our complaints to the relevant authorities, they told us that we were even lucky to be accommodated at the hospital. Yet we pay the N$250 per month through loans that will be deducted from our salaries when we start working. I am asking you the editor to send a photographer to take pictures. There are about 38 students per block and for block F there are only 2 toilets and 2 showers and imagine, we all have to wake up at the same time to go to practice, it’s not even healthy! The cleaners also don`t do their job, the block is ever dirty. Unhappy Oshakati student nurse.
