The young, soft-spoken and industrious Civics Football Club coach, Christy Guruseb, is being hailed by football experts around the country as a man with a bright future in Namibian football.

Guruseb previously worked with Woody Jacobs as Orlando Pirates’ assistant coach, before joining Ramblers last season. The Civics coach is considered one of local football’s most highly coveted and admired coaches.
When asked by Informanté Sport for his view on Christy Guruseb’s performance and caliber, former Blue Waters defender, Max Mavenjono affirmed that, Guruseb is a ‘reviver’. “Give him any club and he will revive it”. “After Civics parted ways with Ali Akan, we labeled Civics as one of the clubs that might be relegated this season. However, Guruseb performance is more than adequate to prove us wrong. Currently they are second on the log standing and still fighting to cement the second spot,” Mavenjono says.
‘’A coach that can create something out of nothing is the coach that I regard as the best. That is Christy. Sydney Urikhob was not known, but today he is one of the best strikers in the country. Another product of Guruseb I can say is Wesley Katjiteo. Wesley was under-valued at African Stars. Now he is one of the outstanding performers as far as this season is concerned.”
‘’I think he’s a role model for every young coach,’’ the expert adds. Mavenjono further believes that Guruseb is a brilliant, phenomenal and exceptional mentor considering the quality of players that he popularises.
Sought-after Otjiherero NBC radio sport presenter, Rodman Katjaimo adds that some coaches complain that the reason why their teams do
not perform is because of improper finance.
” The question is: do Civics have the sponsorship that teams like Stars have? Guruseb knows his duty.”
‘’Guruseb hasn’t won any domestic titles yet, but, indications of his becoming a top coach in Namibia are visible, based on his current exhilarating performance. Ramblers were struggling when he took over last season, but he has converted them into title contenders. Everyone wrote off Civics. This season most said Civics would be relegated, but now they are the favourites to secure the second spot. It should not surprise you if he walks away with the coach of the season award,’’
enthused Katjaimo.
