As the country’s top flight football approaches the end of a busy campaign, revived Eleven Arrows and inconsistent FNB Orlando Pirates are both in a position to climb out of the relegation zone and give their fans and coaches something to cheer about. Arrows take on African Stars who are also under pressure to win this weekend.
Conversely, Jacobs’ team will be safe if they win either of their remaining games, Pirates will be safe if they can register one point. FNB Orlando Pirates on the other hand are taking on sixth placed Wes Bank Tigers on Friday at Sam Nujoma Stadium. Wes Bank Tigers only need to beat Pirates tomorrow to leapfrog Blue Waters, African Stars and SKW into third place. The Okaserandu have fallen to sixth place on the log and are in desperate need of points as they look to finish at their revisited target of fourth place. Perhaps if Ali Akan wins the remaining fixtures he will persuade Stars’ management to consider him as permanent successor to Bobby Samaria, who resigned after a poor run. If Arrows win, United Stars and Hotspurs will be relegated, but if they fail to win their remaining fixtures Arrows will survive. Defiant Arrows coach, Woody Jacobs, is adamant that his side will remain part of the Premier League next season. “I am a believer and I believe that we’ll play in the Premier League next season,” he says. Blue Waters will host Dino Balloti’s Ramblers at Kuisebmund Stadium. Gilbert Raswoka’s charges are scrambling for the second and third spot. This has been a roller-coaster season and for Blue Waters it has been even more up-and-down than for the other clubs. The depth of anguish at the beginning of the season when the Birds were as low as 11th after gaining just 5 points in 5 games and it looked as if the season was already over before it had begun, but Gilbert Raswoka dragged the team back up the league table. For Civics to maintain their second place their next two games are really a must-win as they need to take 6 points, or they will be overtaken by their competitors for the second spot, including the likes of Cymot SKW, African Stars and Wes Bank Tigers. Civics will clinch second spot if they can beat the Mighty Gunners, while Stars and SKW, Tigers, Blue Waters are fighting for the third spot. The bottom two teams will be relegated to the First Division. Depending on the outcome of this weekend’s clashes the fate of several coaches and the likely impact of the results on their careers is now a subject of heated debate.
