South African music sensation, Zahara had about 5000 music lovers on their toes during the first Afro Pop Jazz Carnival 2012 at the WHS FNB Station in Windhoek last Saturday.
The South African singer (real name Bulelwa Mkutukana) had the audience out of their chairs dancing and singing along to her music. The audience especially enjoyed ‘Loliwe’, ‘Destiny’ and ‘My Guitar.’ Tears of joy rolled down the cheeks of some audience members when Zahara performed a few songs by the award-winning South African singer, the late Brenda Fassie. Outstanding Namibian artists, Shishani, Elemotho, Mr. Mokoya, Fishman, House Family, Lize Ehlers, Ponti, Smokey, Big Ben and PDK, added more local flavour and colour to the show. Afro-Pop artist, Big Ben had the crowd going down to the ground when he performed his hit song, ‘Kozongoro’. The crowd sang along to Shishani’s anthem, called ‘Clean Country’ and Elemotho gave a thrilling performance, delivering on the promise of their uniquely rooted music. Kwaito trio PDK presented a stunning song and dance performance. Invariably the lucky ones who attended the show said that it was awesome and the artists outstanding.
