Two men who stand accused of stock theft appeared before Magistrate Helena Ekandjo in Oshakati on Monday 7 May and implicated two police officers from Oshikuku, one now deceased, of being part of a stock-theft syndicate. They stand accused in a case involving 14 stolen cattle worth about N$80 000.
Both the accused, Penda Silas (38) and Andreas Simon (36), claim that they were employees of Warrant Officer Kalola and Sergeant Shivolo, who allegedly ordered them to drive the cattle from Ondjungulume village to Oshikuku in Omusati region. Also implicated in the matter is 39-year old Reginalda Nangolo and Alfred Adalbert (48). Nangolo, a well-known meat-seller at Oshikuku, who is alleged to have already slaughtered two cattle when she was arrested, is now facing the music for failing to verify the ownership of the animals as per requirement of the Stock Theft Act. Oshikuku is located in Omusati Region, but in terms of police operations, it is controlled from Oshana Region. Informanté is reliably informed that immediately after the arrest of the four suspects in 2010, Warrant Officer Kalola committed suicide. The matter was remanded to the 22 May for judgment.
