The TISAN Stormers rugby sevens team excelled, defeating Reho Falcons 21 -19 in the final at the inaugural TISAN Rugby Sevens Tournament held at the University of Namibia’s main campus on 5 May 2012.
TISAN Bulls won the 3rd place play-offs when they defeated Rehoboth Rugby Club by 28-7. Tisan Stomers received a floating trophy, medals and N$8 000 in prize money, while the runners-up received medals and N$4 000. Third and fourth placed TISAN Bulls and Rehoboth Rugby Club received N$2 000 and N$1 000 respectively. The tournament was held with the primary aim of preparing the TISAN Rugby Sevens team that will be participating at the Federation (FISU) Rugby Sevens World Championship in France in July 2012. Exciting rugby was on display throughout the day, with teams like Western Surburbs, UNAM and Polytechnic of Namibia coming nail-bitingly close to reaching the semi-finals. Chase Diergaardt of Rehoboth Rugby Club scored the most tries over the two-day tournament, while Justin Nell of the TISAN Stormers walked away with the Player of the Tournament award. Both players received trophies and a N$500 cash injection for their efforts.
