The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Director General Bob Kandetu appears to be the latest political casualty of the Swapo-Rally for Democracy (RDP) feud after a slip up when an RDP flag appeared in the background during President Hifikepunye Pohamba’s New Year television broadcast.
President Hifikepunye Pohamba has come in for a stick for staying clear of categorically condemning the violent behaviour and political thuggery that ensued when a Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) political gathering attracted the ire of some Swapo members at Outapi.
The growth and diversification of the Namibian media industry poses new challenges to journalists as well as the Namibian public and its corporate and political leadership. These challenges have become even more conspicuous because our society is somehow unfamiliar with the role that media plays in holding rulers accountable to the ruled, in entrenching their covenant responsibly without abuse.
PLANS by Namibian financial services company and media giant, Trustco Group Holdings, to list on the Africa Board of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in early 2009, represents a major milestone in the expansion of Namibian companies on the continent.
