Rio Tinto Rössing Uranium denied this week that a rock fall in its open pit was caused by a shock wave after the use of an excessive amount of explosives during blasting operations.

The ill-treatment of Namibian crews and fisheries observers on the country’s fishing fleet by foreign officers aboard should stop immediately. So said the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Bernhard Esau, last Friday when he ordered all vessel operators to issue written notices to their foreign personnel to stop these practises. Alternatively, any foreigner guilty of such conduct risks being deported.
