The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) has signed a wage increase agreement with the Namibia Public Worker’s Union (NAPWU) agreeing to increase wages by 10% for all but D-band employees who will get 8,6% total cost to company salary increments.
Speaking at the signing occasion, Napwu deputy general secretary Gabes Andumba said that, “equal treatment of all employees irrespective of their colour, sex and race, this is one of the most important factors that employers should have at a workplace.
Most of the employees in this country are victimised when it comes to promotions in employment. The effect of such practices is to lower moral, frustrations and even labour turnover, which would not be in the interest of both parties.”
However, he was all praises for the Namcor management and negotiating party, as well as the parastatal managing director Obeth Kandjoze. “We are also very much delighted by the facilitative role that the managing director of Namcor has played during out engagement.
These negotiations could not come to its logical conclusion without the commitment and dedication from both negotiating teams,” he said.
Apart from the 10% basic salary increase secured for employees in bands A,B and C, Napwu secured a 15% transport allowance increase for Namcor employees.
However, it was agreed that the transport allowance will not be increased again before 2016/2017 financial year, barring calamity and, “on the proviso that if there is a huge spike within the transport cost, such increase will be discussed and agreed upon during the specific financial year,” Andumba explained.
Rental allowance will also increase by 10%, while housing allowance remains unchanged as does medical aid contributions. Both the latter are to be reviewed by the end of June this year. The salary changes are effective as of 1 April. |
