Uranium is the ingredient that fuels about 440 nuclear power stations worldwide. Many new nuclear power plants are planned, especially by China, India and Russia, while various countries after the terrible nuclear accident in Fukushima opt to phase out nuclear power generation and instead turn to renewable energy resources. While discussing nuclear energy, people normally think about the persistent risks of nuclear power plants, the nuclear waste generated and the unsolved problems to safely store the waste for 100 000 years.
